Desert Voices, Arizona's Premier GLBTS Chorus, was founded in 1988. We are a not-for-profit corporation committed to promoting an ongoing, positive gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender presence in our community. Our chorus is a uniquely diverse mix of GLBT people and straight allies. We always welcome anyone who is supportive to come sing with us. Desert Voices is a proud member of GALA Choruses, an international association of 180 gay and lesbian choruses, as diverse as the communities they represent. GALA Chorus membership includes more than 10,000 lesbians, gay men, bisexuals, transgendered persons, and their friends and families across North America, Europe, and Australia. GALA's mission is to inspire and strengthen the international lesbian and gay community. Desert Voices is also a member of the American Choral Directors Association and Chorus America. Our Mission: Desert Voices is an inclusive chorus organized to provide the opportunity for gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgendered and supportive others to sing together in order to: Our Vision: We are a non-profit arts organization committed to developing talent, fostering artistic integrity, entertaining our audiences, encouraging equitable cooperation across differences, supporting diversity, making effective decisions through consensus, maintaining financial health, and having fun. Our Community: Desert Voices is proud to be an active member of the GLBT Community here in Tucson. We strive to be the voice for those who feel they have no voice. We use our voices to promote positive social change in our community. By performing music that reflects the lives of the GLBT community we reach out to the larger society to increase social awareness. We perform regularly at local events that align with our mission and vision. We have sung at several community events throughout the years, including the Rally for Love and Justice in February, 2006; the Habitat for Humanity Rainbow Coalition Wall Raising and Dedication (2005); the Pride in the Pines festival in Bisbee in June, 2005; the Brewster Center Domestic Violence Candlelight Vigils; Pride in the Desert (a.k.a. OUToberfest); and the SAGA Transgender Days of Rememberence each November. Please check the left-hand column to find out where we're performing next. Also, please feel free to contact us if you would like us to sing at a community event that you are planning.
