Fostering community through song in Tucson, Arizona since 1988.
Our History
Founded in 1988, Desert Voices is Arizona’s longest-running LGBTQIA+ community chorus and a member of the larger Gay and Lesbian Association of Choruses (GALA). GALA supports, guides, and inspires LGBTQIA+ choruses and their allies to use the liberating power of singing to create harmony and equity for all.
From our roots in response to the AIDS crisis of the 1980s to the social injustices our community and others face today, we have used song to amplify voices that might otherwise go unheard. We value each generation’s perspective and strive to create an environment where no one feels excluded. We have never been silent, nor will our voices be quieted.
We honor the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer people who came before us and carved out spaces to live authentically despite hostility. Together with our allies, we carry that legacy forward by supporting one another, our audiences, and our communities through song.

Our Mission
Desert Voices honors this history in our mission statement, “Fostering Community through Song”. We are a non-profit organization dedicated to bringing Arizona beautiful music and to forging a positive and resolute LGBTQIA+ presence in the community. Our unique chorus welcomes all adult voices to perform with us, regardless of race, creed, sexuality, or gender identity and expression. Our purpose is to give a voice to those whose songs go unheard.
Our Core Values
Desert Voices is an inclusive chorus organized to provide the opportunity for LGBTQIA+ people and allies to come together to:
Build community within and outside the chorus through our love of music
Produce shows that are entertaining and musically excellent
Perform music that reflects the lives of the LGBTQIA+ community
Promote an ongoing, positive LGBTQIA+ presence in our community
Advance positive social change
